About The Event

**UPDATE**

Due to the necessity of social distancing, I will be offering this class virtually! See below for full details.

This Begginner Acrylic Painting Class will be tought via Zoom. For those who don't know, Zoom is a video conferencing service that is free for the audience and easy to use. Video conferencing will allow me to instruct the class, see the students, and be able to see their progress as we go along. Instructions on how to get into the zoom meeting will be provided before the class begins. Materials can be purchased from me in a complete kit for this class! See the ticket area for more details.

Alternatively, you can purchase the necessary materials on your own. The weekly materials are listed in each class description below. These supplies are not required, but are strongly suggested. Contact me directly if you have any questions!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

  • Week 1 (April 16): Getting to Know Acrylics

During this first week we will talk about what acrylic paints are, how they can be used, and tools artists use to apply acrylics. I will show the children a variety of different brushes and "canvas" types.

After the discussion of what acrylics are and how they can be used, we will paint rocks with uplifting messages or images - anything that makes the kids smile! Kids can keep these rocks or give them to someone who might need them. I encourage you to check out the Facebook page "Herriman Rocks" and see if this is something your child might be interested in participating with.

Materials: Rocks, small round brush, medium flat brush, acrylic clear spray*, various paints

*the acrylic clear spray is not included in the course kit! If you would like your rocks spray sealed, they can be dropped off at my house and picked up the next day!

  • Week 2 (April 23): Impasto Painting

This week children will learn about different ways to create textures with acrylics! I will walk them through painting a beach scene using fun tools like a palette knife and sand.

Materials: Canvas board, medium flat brush, palette knife (painting spatula), sand, paint: sand-colored, light blue, dark blue, & white

  • Week 3 (April 30): Landscape Painting

During this class I will show children how to create mountains, trees, and flowers. We will talk briefly about color mixing and creating atmospheric perspective.

Materials: Canvas (8"x10"), medium flat brush, small round brush, palette knife (painting spatula), paint: light blue, white, yellow, red

  • Week 4 (May 7): Tree Painting

This week children will learn to paint a closer subject, painting a tree branch from the landscape painting from the previous week. These branch paitnings will include a background, branches, blossoms, and birds.

Materials: Canvas (8"x10"), medium flat brush, small round brush, palette knife (painting spatula), paint: light blue, white, yellow, red

These classes are meant to build off of each other, and are therefore combined into a course. However, you may sign your child up for only the classes he or she can attend. Simply select the dates you would like to register your child for, or select the discounted ticket "Entire Course".
