About The Event
Understanding the basic elements of art is a good way to advance your artistic skill! The class schedule is as follows:
- Week 1 (March 20): Elements of Art
We'll discuss the basic elements of art, such as line, shape, and form. The complimenting activity will be a 3D drawing on paper.
- Week 2 (March 27): Color Theory
We'll talk about the color wheel (complimentary colors, monochromatic art, warm/cold colors, etc) as well as value and contrast. At the end of the lecture we will complete a monochromatic watercolor painting.
- Week 3 (April 3): Pattern
This lecture will cover pattern, movement, and texture. We will then draw an optical illusion on paper.
- Week 4 (April 10): Composition
During this final class we will talk about composition, including negative and positive space, focal points, perspective, and balance. This final project will be a small canvas painting in acrylics. Be aware that this final class may run a half hour or so longer.
These classes are meant to build off of each other, and are therefore combined into a course. Please make sure each date will work for you so your child can make it to every class. I will offer one make up day for anyone who has missed a class and do my best to schedule that for a day and time that would work for anyone needing it. Additional information about this class will be sent out before the first class.
