Virtual Paint Night - Beach Scene
Time & Location
About The Event
This Paint Night will be taught virtually. While my previous Virtual Paint Nights were done through Facebook Live, this will be a more interactive class taught through Zoom, a video conferencing service. This will allow me to view participants and their work and give better, personalized instruction.
Materials for this class:
I'll be using a 12"x16" canvas. The great thing about this painting is it can really be done on any shape and size! Use what you have or can find readily.
- Palette knife
I have seen these at the dollar store! I imagine you could also use a butter knife, but I haven't tried it myself.
- 1" flat or bright brush
Use a smaller brush if your canvas will be smaller than mine. Don't over think it! We're not painting fine details, so brush size and shape is not terribly important.
- Small round brush
This is optional, but if you'd like to add finer details you'll need a finer brush.
- Acrylic paint
You'll want for sure white, blue, and sand/tan paint. It's best if you have two shades of blue (darker and lighter, or even more true-blue and green-blue). Sand-colored paint can be created with white and small amounts of brown (and sometimes a little yellow). I will make my own sand-colored paint at the beginning of the class, so you're welcome to follow along with me!
You'll want an apron or old shirt as acrylics do not wash from clothes easily. It may be a good idea to cover your table too! You'll want a cup with water for rinsing your brushes, a palette for paints (paper plates or old container lids work well) and a few paper towels handy. Also, glitter would be a fun addition to this ocean painting!
You are responsible for obtaining your own supplies! I will have kits available for pick up, so add a Paint Night Kit if you would like to pick up all the materials for this class from my porch. I will contact you directly when they will be available for pick up, or you are welcome to contact me to request a specific time. All kits will be available no later than 24hrs before class.
This is an adult's only painting event! The purpose is to allow adults a little more freedom to unmute themselves for questions and comments, and drink what they will, without worrying about being heard or seen by someone else's child. However, keep in mind I have no way to enforce this request, and I trust everyone to respect the other participants. Although we are all painting from the comfort of our own homes, I am hoping for a public paint-night feel (meeting new people, laughing at jokes, being polite, and just having a good time). For added freedom to wear and do as you please, you are welcome to keep your camera and microphone turned off during the class ;).
Additional members in your household can paint along for free (remember to get them a kit too if they need it!). Please don't go crazy and invite all your friends over - I really try to interact with everyone who needs it, so 5+ people in one video might be distracting, for myself and other painters.
